Medical vs Routine

Many insurances provide for a “routine” vision exam once a year. This is an exam focused on vision correction (i.e., glasses, contacts, Rx). The exam, although thorough, is for the purpose of determining the need for correction. This exam is not intended to address medical conditions.

If a patient has a medical condition that affects their vision, they will need to schedule a medical exam. During the comprehensive medical exam, a vision correction exam can also be performed and a prescription for glasses or contacts may be provided.
